The 24th edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World takes place this year from October 14 to 20 with the theme “Italian and books: the world between the lines,” with the aim of exploring the nexus between language and literature in the contemporary world, while enhancing the role of books as vehicles for the Italian cultural heritage, values and identity.
The Embassy of Italy in Kuala Lumpur has organized – together with Prof. Andrea Paduano of the Italian Division of the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics of Universiti Malaya – several initiatives dedicated to students of the Italian degree program, and – in collaboration with ITACA, the cultural division of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Malaysia (ItalCham), in the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo’s death – an event open to the public dedicated to “Il Milione,” the 13th-century travelogue written from stories told by the Italian merchant and explorer, which describe his travels through Asia between 1271 and 1295, and his experiences at the court of Kublai Khan.
The talk (in English) will take place on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, from 5 p.m. (indicatively until 6:30-7 p.m.), at the indicine hall of the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac).
