19-24 October 2015: 15th edition of the Italian Language week in the world

19 October 2015: Paolo Coluzzi (Senior Lecturer, University of Malaya, Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, Department of Asian and European Languages) held a public talk in which he presented the main characteristics of italian traditional music on a basis of the four regions (North, South, Centre and Sardinia) into which it is subdivided. Dr. Coluzzi also presented some specifically selected pieces to better illustrate his explanations, and briefly introduced the most important traditional dances.

20 October 2015: Screening of the movie "The last Punch" directed by Maurizio Scaparro. The movie is liberally inspired on Roberto Rossellini's unedited screenplay and tells the story of the difficult relationship between a young Neapolitan boy and his father who hardly manages to survive as a street artist singing and performing "Punch stories" in the Street of Neaples.

22 October 2015: Andrea Paduano (Language Teacher, University of Malaya, Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, Department of Asian and European Languages) held a public talk on "Italian, the Language of music" with the rendition of Dr. Yap Jin Hin (tenor), Jane Soong (soprano) and Kenneth Kian Huat (piano). He explained the importance of Italy and of the Italian Language in the history of music in terms of the musical notation itself, the technical terminology internationally adopted and the musical instruments themselves. He introduced the history of Opera with some interesting facts about foreign composers who used Italian for their works. His presentation was accompained by the performance of some arias from Mozart's compositions like "Don Giovanni", "Così fan tutte" and "Le nozze di Figaro" by Dr. Yap and Jane.


16 October 2015: Kuala Lumpur City Opera

The concert was organised by KLCO (Kuala Lumpur City Opera), a company which promotes opera as an integral part of the art and cultural landscape of Malaysia, KLCO aim is to discover and nurture local artists, musicians and dancers and to provide them with a platform to cultivate their talent through training opportunities. This fundraising concert featured a medley of 6 unique operas in 4 different languages (Italian, English, German and French): "Die Zauberflöte" by Mozart, "Carmen" by Bizet, "Cavalleria rusticana" by Mascagni, "La Boheme" by Puccini, "Hansel and Gretel" by Humperdink and "Il barbiere di Siviglia" by Rossini.


28 September 2015: Concert by "Mezzotono"

“Mezzotono” is a small but powerful “Italian Orchestra Without Instruments”.
Their concert, co-organized by the HELP College of Arts and Technology and the Embassy of Italy in Kuala Lumpur, was entirely executed “a cappella”, without the use of musical instruments. It was in fact the five members themselves, Fabio Lepore, Daniela Desideri, Gaia Gentile, Marco Giuliani and Alessandro Gnolfo who reproduced with their voices the sounds of the different instruments. This was not their first time in Malaysia as they have taken part in the Georgetown Jazz Festival in Penang in 2012, in the Kota Kinabalu Jazz Festival in 2014 and in the JB Arts Festival twice in 2015.


10-13 September 2015: Art Expo Malaysia Plus

The Art Expo Malaysia (AEM) celebrated its 9th edition this year. It exhibited 2000 pieces of artworks coming from galleries from 30 different countries. The Embassy of Italy participated as one of the exhibitors for the third consecutive year with the artist Kezia Terracciano (represented by Sabiana Paoli, head of the "Sabiana Paoli Art Gallery") who exposed some of her pen on canvas works. Her artwork "Sounds" was aquired by the National Museum of Kuala Lumpur.


9 September 2015: Europe in Cinema

Europe in Cinema is a film series showing movies dealing with relevant issues in European societies organised by EUNIC (European Union National Institute for Culture) Malaysia. The EUNIC Malaysia members are: Alliance Française, British Council, Embassy of Austria, Embassy of Denmark, Embassy of Italy, Embassy of Romania, Embassy of Sweden, Goethe-Institut and Instituto Cervantes. The movie for the month of September was the italian drama "Clash of civilization over an elevator in piazza Vittorio", based on the 2010 book of Amara Lakhous, on a very contemporary theme- that of immigration.


18 August - 4 October 2015: TWINS exhibition by Oliviero Rainaldi at Galeri Petronas in Kuala Lumpur

The TWINS exhibition by the contemporary Italian artist and sculptor Oliviero Rainaldi, organized by the Italian Trade Agency in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy, took place at Galeri PETRONAS in Kuala Lumpur from the 18th August to the 4th October 2015. It has been an exhibition with a large response from the public and visibility for Italy and its art. It featured over 30 pieces of extraordinary artworks comprising drawings, paintings, and sculptures; the exhibition also showed a pair of sculptures titled TWINS, a special dedication to the PETRONAS Twin Towers. Official partners included Maserati, Naza Italia, Marini's on 57, the Malaysian Tatler, Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur and DNA Comm.




8 April 2015: "Il grande cinema italiano" on the A-List channel on Astro

Astro dedicated the April A-List  channel to "Il grande cinema italiano" by showing seven award-winning movies. On the evening  of the official launch, the movie "Human Capital" by Paolo Virzì (2013) was showed.The other movies were: "The great beauty", "The bycicle thief", "La dolce vita", "Un ragazzo d'oro", "Anita B." and "Pulce non c'è".



16 December 2014: Piano Workshop by Orietta Caianiello

Still related to the Theme "Women and Music", the pianist Orietta Caianiello held a Workshop at the music faculty of the Universiti Teknology MARA that saw the participation of several students.

10 December 2014: Concert "Women and Music" by Orietta Caianiello

During the concert Maestro Caianiello performed pieces of five famous women-composers from different nationalities: Marianne von Martinez, Josepha von Auernhammer, Cecile Chaminade, Maria Teresa D'Agnesi and Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel. The accomplished pianist has presented theirs characteristics and recounted some anecdotes on their lives and careers.

21 September 2014: Concert "The great music of italian cinema" by Mauro Maur and Françoise De Clossey

The concert, which took place at the Plenary Theatre of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, featured Maestro Mauro Maur, lead and solo trumpet of the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome from 1985 to 2010, accompanied by the pianist Françoise De Clossey. They played some among the most famous soundtracks of Italian movies from three well-known composers: Ennio Morricone, Piero Piccioni and Nino Rota.

1-14 September 2014: "60 years of Made in Italy" exhibition

After Rome, Mexico City and Washington, the "60 years of Made in Italy" exhibition was showcased in Malaysia. The exhibition tells the story of the evolution of italian style and fashion over the years. To launch the celebration of Italian brands, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur hosted an exclusive fashion gala, where guests could admire the pieces on display during the exhibition. Among the international guests, particular mention is due to Anna Fendi, one of the founding sisters of the brand Fendi and the famous couturier Raffaella Curiel.
