Bilateral relations

Based on mutual friendship and cooperation, the bilateral relations between Italy and Malaysia are enriched by deeper and stronger economic and commercial ties. Italian exports have grown by 18.1% in the last five years and Malaysia, industrialized country scoring an average GDP growth around 4% to 5%, is also becoming source of important investments in Italy. In addition to the fact that both the Italian resident population and the number of registered Italian companies (which more and more consider Malaysia as a preferential place to establish their regional hub) have doubled, an increase in trade missions as well as an intensification of cultural and inter- Universities relations have been registered.
Italy looks at Malaysia with growing attention not only for the opportunities offered by its own market but also as an ideal gateway to access ASEAN region.
This year, 2017, we will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the bilateral relations since Malaysia became independent.
Besides the Embassy, other Italian institutions present in the country are: the Defence Attache’ Office and the Italian Agency for Trade promotion.
In Malaysia an Association of entrepreneurs named Italy-Malaysia Business Association (IMBA) and a cultural association named Emilio Salgari are also active.
